
Head of Financial Risk

What you are going to do
In this role, you will lead the way in managing financial risk at NN Life & Pensions. You ensure our investment decisions are responsible, resilient and future-proof, safeguarding our daily commitments to our customers. With your team, you turn complex data into clear insights, shape long-term risk strategies and strengthen cross-departmental collaboration.

- Guide and support a team of six risk professionals, creating an environment where everyone can contribute and grow
- Oversee investment and market risk, including interest rate risk, strategic asset allocation and illiquid investments, with a focus on long-term stability
- Lead the manager of the Risk Analysis and Reporting (RAR) team and ensure consistent, accurate reporting of Solvency Capital Requirements and other key risk data
- Collaborate with departments such as Group Investment Office, Group Risk, Treasury, Finance and Pensions to embed risk thinking into key decisions
- Represent NN Life in internal committees, contributing your perspective to drive informed and balanced choices across the business

- A salary ranging from €10,006 to €14,294 based on 40 hours, depending on your knowledge and experience

Who you are
You have excellent analytical skills and you are able to explain complex matters to all stakeholders in a clear and transparent way. You can easily adapt and absorb new information in a changing environment and independently form a critical and well substantiated opinion and effectively stand-up for these opinions in meetings with senior management. You are organisationally aware and a real team player.
Furthermore you bring:
- A master’s degree in econometrics, actuarial science, mathematics, or similar. A CFA, FRM, AAG or equivalent qualification is a plus
- Multiple years of experience in managing a group of experts in financial risk, investments, finance or similar
- Knowledge about the Solvency internal models and corresponding market risk and aggregation models is considered a plus
- At least 10 years of experience in market risk management, balance sheet management or similar
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. You’re able to clearly communicate with senior management level and with specialists
- You have no difficulty with providing feedback
Who you’ll work with
You’ll head the Financial Risk Management (FRM) team, part of the CRO department at NN Life & Pensions. The team includes 12 specialists with backgrounds in asset management, econometrics, actuarial science and investments. Together, you cover both investment risk and market risk, and work closely with the Risk Analysis and Reporting sub-team. The atmosphere is professional and open, with space to share ideas, support one another and take initiative. You’ll also be part of the department’s management team and report directly to the CRO. At NN, we work hybrid. In consultation with your team, you’ll determine where and when you work. Your official workplace is Rotterdam.
